I found this article on the Atlanta Business Chronicle today:
Atlanta moved up to the fourth-best city for college grads, according to a Bloomberg Businessweek report on Wednesday.
The report ranks the top 30 cities in the country that it labeled as the “Best cities for new college grads.” The report refers to the communities on the list as “cities that, despite the economic crisis, still have strong job opportunities, decent pay, and living costs that won’t blow your budget.”
Atlanta checked in at No. 4, behind only Houston, Washington, D.C., and Austin, Texas. In 2009, Atlanta ranked fifth.
“The warm climate and sizzling job opportunities make the nickname Hotlanta, bestowed on the city by its rappers, fitting,” the report said. “Ten of Georgia’s 14 biggest companies are in Atlanta, including Home Depot, United Parcel Service, which incidentally has many listings in Atlanta on AfterCollege, Delta Air Lines, and Coca-Cola. What makes Atlanta able to weather economic storms is the diversity of its industries, from services to manufacturing.”
The report noted average annual pay in Atlanta is $45,520 and it has 57 entry-level employers.
The news outlet said in its report that the 30 cities on the list this year were culled from an initial pool of 3,580 municipalities where employers posted at least one job on the AfterCollege Web site. The cities with the most listings were used for the ranking.
I’ve lived in the Atlanta area my entire life, and can proudly say this is a great place for young professionals. There is so much industry, from arts to manufacturing, white collar jobs, blue collar jobs, and everything in between. Despite the downturn in the overall economy, metro Atlanta is still moving. Makes me happy to know my impressions about the opportunities in Atlanta weren’t misguided.
